Even though opting for the cheaper platforms can often mean sacrificing some functionality or quality, we think FirstTrade provides an excellent level of service and good quality tools. Very advanced investors may demand more power and functionality, but most people should find everything they need.

In addition to all this you can also access top quality commentary from Standard and Poor to help in making decisions.

All of FirstTrade's tools are web based and that includes the main trading platform view where you can make trades and view market data. This may not be to everyone's taste as some professional investors prefer to have an application running on their desktop for extra speed. However, these web based tools are just as customizable as most of their desktop equivalents and almost as fast. We think new and casual investors will particularly appreciate the simple design and ease of use. The quick trade bar is always just a click away so you can instantly react to changing market conditions as you use other parts of the site.

If you need any help executing trades, FirstTrade provides a broker assisted service whereby you can call up and have a professional execute the trade for you. However, for everything else they are purely online based and don't have any offices in the real world. This doesn't seem to be a problem though as the level of customer service is excellent and it allows FirstTrade to offer some very competitive prices. You can still get advice from professional advisers whenever you need it and FirstTrade are very good at helping you plan for retirement.

FirstTrade is a good, solid online trading platform with some very reasonable prices and a wide variety of investments available to suit any portfolio. Customer service is up there with the best of them, but if you are the type of person who likes to drop into an office you might want to look elsewhere.
